How does the phone work on a 2006 Ford Expedition?

On the radio in my recently purchased used 2006 Ford Expedition there is a phone button. What is it suppose to do? Can I hook my radio up to a blue tooth phone? Or is there a service through ford I can subscribe to to activate an on-board phone.

The phone button mutes the radio so as not to interfere with your phone conversation.
