  1. Pangaea actually formed when several smaller continents collided. During this collision, Europe collided with Asia, forming the Urals.

    This collision would have pushed some marine creatures up when the land that was pushed up with ocean water between.

    Marine life which was once living on a continental shelf and was eventually turned into sedimentary rock was uplifted by the forces of colliding continents into mountain ranges. Orogeny is the term used for mountain building.
