  1. High fives all around.

  2. with a right jab to the face

  3. The most recent meeting between the Queen of England and the Pope of Rome was about five or six years ago, and it was reported that they warmly shook hands. The Queen politely let the Pontiff know as they greeted each other that it was "a great pleasure" to see him again, recalling a previous meeting at Buckingham Palace in 1982 when Pope John Paul II visited Britain, he was at the time the first Pope to do so in 450 years. They met for the first time 2 years prior to this, in 1980, at the Vatican. Royal visits to the Vatican are also a tradition, and one that inspired the Pope  to recall  that his "predecessors Pope Pius XII and Pope John XXIII first bade you welcome here" during this historical event.

Observing Vatican protocol the Queen, who is head of the Church of England, might not have any special handshake or courtsey to memorize, but one tradition that has roots going back to the earliest Popes is that she always wears dark clothing. During their last vist, she wore a black wool suit and a pill box hat with a short veil. In 1980 the Queen dressed entirely in black, with a tiara holding a cascade veil in place. A black lace dress with matching veil worn to meet Pope John XXIII at the Vatican during a state visit to Italy on May 5 1961 was designed for the occasion and stands on display at a Kensington Palace museum.

Although the Prime Minister Tony Blair and his family have had an audience with the current Pope Benedict within the last couple of years, the new Pontiff has yet to meet with the Queen of England as of this time.
