If you are American and have not traveled abroad to answer this question with any amount of experience then please do not answer.

What types of names do they call us? What policies do they like or dislike? What is the general opinion?

  1. I am from Sweden and we think american as murders illiterates stupid brain washed dogs

  2. I have traveled to more places I can count over the past 25 years, and have never been treated any way but with courtesy and respect. Many people hear their government and ner'do well rants and they are curious. Strangely almost all suspect that what they are fed is bull. The nonsese you hear about Americans being hated are from Muslims and Socialist welfare cases.

  3. Who cares?

Seriously, in the last 5 years I have been in England, France, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Chile, Taiwan and Japan.

I have had almost no negative experiences in any of those places, except Argentina.  I did find a really rude cabby who felt qualified to try to covert me to Communism, Venezuela style, there.

People are people, and I don't pay attention to their countries politics, or comment on them, and they don't pay that much attention to ours. Of course, I don't spend time in newspaper offices or universities (except Oxford), so I don't expose myself to those bastions of Anti-Americanism, but I don't do those things at home either, for the same reason.

AND I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER CROSSED THEIR COUNTY LINE FOR IGNORING THE ASKERS REQUEST THAT YOU NOT ANSWER IF YOU HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE.  IT IS PAINFULLY OBVIOUS THAT THOSE WHO DO HAVE KNOWLEDGE DONT RUN INTO NEGATIVITY, MUCH

  4. Well, in general, most Europeans think Bush is a numbnuts and thay can't believe we elected him twice.  They simply think that most Americans are poorly educated in world affairs and couldn't find Iraq on a map if they wanted to, (and I'm sure that this is a correct assumption.)

If you watch the news in America, you get 70% fluff and 30% propoganda.   In Europe, you hear stories about other countries!  Imagine that?!Most Americans are not interested in what is going on outside their own backyard.

And because of this, we are going to suffer the consequences in the future.

  5. Who really cares? They are all insanely jealous of us. We are the rich kid on the block...everyone wants what we have and hates us because we have it.

  6. I've been to Mexico.  They call us Gringos.

They don't like our anti-drug or anti-illegal immigration policies, but like our money.

  7. We non-americans thinks that americans are dumb & talks loads of stupid ****.

  8. I have been to 23 different countries already this year. I have not had one person harass me or say anything bad about America. It's a bunch of slander. Sure I haven't been to Iran or anything like that but people generally like American's and our country. In fact, I would say that many people, especially in Asia, really really like Americans.

  9. I have friends and family who live in Europe and they are of the opinion that America is stretching itself thin and abandoning the very principle from which it was founded upon.  You have to remember that people abroad understand history a little bit better and they are able to draw the parallels between the decline and fall of the Roman Empire to the American Empire.  But it all depends on who you talk and you will get many various opinions.

  10. I think the answer you'll get from most right-wingers is "Who cares?", while everyone else in America realizes that the American reputation around the world is lousy, at best.

All other countries on the planet see the political right in the US as a poison that's infecting the globe. American moderates and the political left are seen as the cure for that poison. Hopefully that cure will be further administered come November.

My experience is that other countries view America with contempt. America is seen as a very backward society that places the emphasis on materialism and corporate wealth instead of its citizens.

  11. from what ive seen.........they look at us like we're complete idiots.

  12. Why don't you check the foreign sites on the internet? Instead you're asking a bunch of people you don't know to answer a question that you couldn't possibly know if they're being truthful.

    Good grief...

Try some English, German, French etc newspapers in their English translation. That will give you an idea, more reliably too I might add.

  13. Many foreigners tend to have an issue with Americans for one reason:

Jealousy-We are the greatest country on earth and no one can deny it!

  14. When I was in Ireland last year there were some protests in Dublin against the U.S. I watched some of it and heard a lot of pro Iranian talk and some anti Bush speech. Their general opinion of Americans is very positive. Their opinion of our government is negative. Personally I don't give a c**p what the world thinks of America. They should worry about their own problems.
