How does the river help us? How does it help the environment? (physical geography)?

I know most of the main ones but please still include them. I need more Physical geography

Travel/transport/navigation

Tourism/recreation

Water for homes/agriculture

Fertile land on floodplain

If you need specific examples use R. Nile in Egypt - everything depends on the river, it would be desert otherwise - or the Colorado, West USA which supplies water to 25million people in 7 states

Hydro-electric power - Colorado supplies 500, 000 homes and use in industry

Think about source of river and likelihood to dry up, less than lakes because it's moving - if it's from snowmelt it might have a greater flow in summer

Helping the environment:

Wildlife - habitats

In urban areas it reduces urban heat island effect

And, with all areas in Geography, always look at both sides of the arguement - positive and negative. Good luck.
