Question:

How does the scapula and clavicle 'move' when the entire arm is raised over the head? Do they get squashed?

Links or examples would be helpful but not necessary. I tried "feeling" my shoulder but I still don't understand how or what it looks like if anyone can kindly help. Thanks

  1. the distal(shoulder end) of the clavicle is elevated and rolls back(bottom to front top to back). the scapula tilts with the top moving medially(towards the spine)

    they don't get squashed.

    also if you can get ahold of a copy of A.I. Kapandji's book 'the physiology of the joints volume 1 the upper extrimity' it is a very good reference with pictures, diagrams, and diagrams that use everyday objects(as opposed to the bones themselves) that move the same way to explain.
