How does the sirrus satelite radio work? I know that you pay a monthly fee for it. Do you hook it up to a radio? Do they have portable ones that you can listen to like a ipod or CD player?

  1. In your car, you can buy a headunit that picks up the Sirius signal.

Or, you can get "plug-n-play" receivers.  You have to buy car/home cradles.  You pop the receiver in and out of these, and connect the cradles to the antenna and power source.  You then connect the cradle to your car/home stereo using the auxiliary output, or wireless FM modulator built into some radios.

Alternatively, boomboxes are available for most plug-n-play receivers.

Sirius has 3 models of portable radios:

Stiletto 10 - Listen to live Sirius plus record up to 10 hours of Sirius content.

Stiletto 100 - Listen to live Sirius plus record up to 100 hours of Sirius content, or 50 hours of Sirius content plus 1GB of mp3s.  Stream the Sirius internet radio through a wifi connection.

Stiletto 2 - Like the 100, except that it includes an external memory card slot to store up to 8 GB of mp3s.

For best results to receive live radio, you should be outside and wearing the antenna headphones that are included.

The portables can also be used in home/car docks as described above.

  2. you get an antenna and wire which you put on the roof or trunk of your car and run to the system which mounts wherever you want it or on the air vents power supply comes from your cig lighter, no batteries. it has a fm transmitter in side in which you can pick what frequency you want it to play on. then you put that station on your radio. as for payment you could go monthly or yearly, i think yearly is cheaper. and can get a docking station for your home stereo system.
