  1. You've named "Love after love"...what is the other poem; I'm interested...

    Anyway. Enjambment in "Love after love" provides anticipation for the reader, like in lines 3 & 4:

    "you will greet yourself arriving

    at your own door, in your own mirror"

    The reader gets to the word "arriving", and asks "arriving? where? I must read on to find out". Enjambment leads the reader ever on, giving the poem momentum, so the next line is often a surprise, a mini "twist" in the tale, so to speak.

    This is an excellent poem, which I have not read before. Thanks! And a pleasure to read a question on here with some knowledge of poetic devices...
