  1. venous return is one of the factors deciding cardiac output.

    C.O. = Heart rate x Stroke volume

    so, Low venous return (preload) -------- Decreased stroke volume ---------- This reflexly increases the heart rate (i.e. it causes tachycardia) to maintain (with limitations) cardiac output and thus, blood supply to vital organs.
