  1. It turns the rudders, which turn the ship, sort of like a fish's fins turning it's body.

  2. with an outboard or inboard/outboard motor, the wheel turns the motor or outdrive in the opposite way at which you turn the wheel. resulting in the way you turned the wheel. confusing yet simple

  3. Well in terms the propellers or sometimes called screws can also be called wheels, its a term use mostly in the commercial industry, tugs, fishing boats, big ships,

  4. Actually....

The wheel moves a mechanism..either Hydraulic(a pump and hose) or a cable or a rod(rack and pinion) or a direct worm gear....these are usually connected to an arm(rod) or quadrant(quarter or more of a circle) which is connected to the rudder shafts...thereby moving the rudder(s)...or directly to the front of an outboard.

    That's the real deal...

  5. Boats have rudders on the back that move from side to side. Watch some more pirate movies....you'll learn alot!

  6. The wheel moves the rudder(s) of the ship, causing the water to push on it at an angle.  This pushing makes the ship turn.

  7. the wheel moves a rutter in the back of the back
