  1. A pitaya is the fruit of several cactus species, most importantly of the genus Hylocereus (sweet pitayas). These fruit are also known as pitahaya, dragon fruit, huǒ lóng guǒ ( "fire dragon fruit"), lóng zhū guǒ ("dragon pearl fruit"), strawberry pear, nanettikafruit, or thanh long. Native to Mexico and Central and South America, Hylocereus cacti are also cultivated in Southeast Asian countries such as Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

  2. i think it's from southeastern country like thailand or vietnam,, another common name for it is "dragonfruit". the skin is red and delicate but inside its white and has lots of small seeds. it's also very juicy and good for you health but too much could cause you to have bad discoloration in skin or urine i think. I've eaten several of them in the past, it's hard to come across here in the states..

  3. idk bro

  4. "The name pitaya originated in the Antilles and meant scaly fruit (Piña, 1977). The ancient Mexicans called the fruit Coapetilla, meaning thick serpent, relating to the appearance of the stems." ( cit. "Ethnobotany, Productivity, and Ecophysiology of Pitaya (Stenocereus queretaroensis)" In this publication you find more info about origin of the fruit too. )
