Shocking Choice by John McCain

WASHINGTON-- Senator John McCain just announced his choice for running mate: Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. To follow is a statement by Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund.

“Senator McCain’s choice for a running mate is beyond belief. By choosing Sarah Palin, McCain has clearly made a decision to continue the Bush legacy of destructive environmental policies.

“Sarah Palin, whose husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum), has repeatedly put special interests first when it comes to the environment. In her scant two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, pushed for more drilling off of Alaska’s coasts, and put special interests above science. Ms. Palin has made it clear through her actions that she is unwilling to do even as much as the Bush administration to address the impacts of global warming. Her most recent effort has been to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science. As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration.

“This is Senator McCain’s first significant choice in building his executive team and it’s a bad one. It has to raise serious doubts in the minds of voters about John McCain’s commitment to conservation, to addressing the impacts of global warming and to ensuring our country ends its dependency on oil.”

  1. well the fantasy granola tree huggers cant stand her but I love her

what better than a person who lives in Alaska too see if drilling will adversly effect the enviroment

global warming is just a fantasy by al chicken little gore

  2. I agree with Sarah Palin's environmental policies more than I do Rodger Schlickeisen's.

  3. show us your link I would like to see who is saying it and from what because she has a very high reputation for setting ethics in drilling.

  4. It makes me feel like it is right to vote for Obama.  The Republican Party doesn't want to talk about the issues and cannot win on the issues.  They have a worthy veteran to be considered for election in John McCain and they choose Palin, so that she can be an issue, a wedge or some kind of construct to debate experience in the oval office. This to me is sheer desperation. They are beaten and they know it. From a competency standpoint it reminds me of the Bush/Quayle ticket; this is the quality of pick the party has chosen to add to the Republican campaign.  I bet the Republican right isn't happy either.  Loser.

  5. Well it's kind of tough to put polar bears on the endangered species list when their numbers don't warrant them being placed there. It would be pretty easy to get them on there if they were actually endangered. Sound science my big toe, they can't even follow their own rules, and since global warming has never been definitively linked to human activity, I wouldn't exactly call it a leap to want to get some oil from someplace where it is known to exist. Oh, and Mr. Liberal Genius Environmentalist, its dependence on FOREIGN oil we're trying to get away from. Let us all be afraid of the evil agenda of the average oilfield worker, like Todd Palin.
