How does this diet for my kids sound?

I am pregnant and in the future I want my kids to eat the same way as me so I was wondering what you thought about this for a kids diet?

breakfast:

2 pieces of raw fresh fruit and maybe a glass of non concentrated 0sugar added juice

midmorning snack: raw nuts

lunch: nut butter sandwhich on whole grain bread!

dinner: something whole grain + always a salad or vegetables

and on weekends just so my kids dont get left out of the pancakes cereal, waffles for breakfast on weekends breakfast is some whole grain pancakes or traditional breakfast choices..healthy of coarse(whole grain) with some fruit as snacks throught the day

I am vegan and I think this eating plan is wonderful it makes me feel great and I have been doing this for 10 years. I want to pass this eating habits on to my kids.

I know the breakfast thing might suck for them becuse they arent getting cereal or porrage like other children but making them have it on the weekend is so much better becuse it limits their sugar intake.

What do you think?

  1. This isn't a good diet for kids. It's lacking in protein, iron, and calcium, which are all very important for growing kids. Your kids should probably get a choice of if they want to be vegan, but if your going to raise them that way, see a nutritionist. At least consider giving them dairy so they can get more calcium and protein. Also, watch out for eating to many nuts while your pregnant, this could cause a nut allergy which wouldn't be good. Try adding more beans in for protein and iron at least. If I were you, go see a nutritionist.

  2. Becoming vegan should be a choice, your children need to be healthy and happy FIRST.

That is great that you are vegan but take into consideration that you are grown already and children need certain nutrition to become healthy, please consult your doctor or a nutritionist before doing anything like that.

  3. It is nearly impossible for a child to eat a vegan diet and not get malnourished.  Your children will end up with rickets and iron deficiency, to name a few, on this diet.  They need LOTS of protein and calcium, and you have them way overloaded on carbs.  Not to mention that the calorie intake is way too low.

You mentioned that you are pregnant--if you are eating this diet, your baby is not getting the necessary nutrition to grow into a healthy newborn.

If you insist on the vegan thing--please, at least consult a professional or you will ruin your child's health and I am sure that is not what you want.

  4. You will end up with very malnourished children.

  5. Looks a little short on protein... at least add some beans. Short on calcium, too. I'm all for the low sugar, though.

I'm a vegetarian myself, but you definitely need to consult a nutritionist before trying to raise kids vegan. Their nutritional needs are very different from adults. Especially young children need lots of protein, calcium, and calories to develop (all the good stuff in breast milk). Definitely talk to a professional nutritionist and don't rely on answers from us amateurs here.

  6. from birth- 5 years, do not limit them to anything. Only limit thier candy intake. I have never seen a skinny baby. Only chubby babies are cute. Just give them healthy food like oatmeal, cereal, pasta, vegetables, fruit, milk, and very nutricious foods. If you limit them, they will be malnourished. you should confront your doctor and a pediatrician.

  7. You should consult a nutritionist because it will not meet their nutritionnal needs... Except the nuts, where are the proteins?? Children need more than just salad and raw fruits and no sugar added juice.. If you insist on raising them vegan, consult a nutritionist and ask her to design you a diet too cause you might think you eat healthy, but you don't! You don't get enough protein and vitamin b12, found only in meat is not present in your diet, a lack of it can case dementia in the future, think about supplements, although i find it sad to need to use supplements for kids.. Yeah, see a nutritionist!

  8. This is definitely NOT a good meal plan.  I suggest you find a nutritionist and discuss this with them.  Your children will be very unhealthy.  I dont even see any calcium in this diet?!?  I dont think you should have your children be vegan until they are old enough to choose that for themselves.

  9. I think you may want to take into consideration that they may develop a nut allergy. I would come up with alternatives.

Also, I think your children will get sick of eating the same thing all the time. When they are finally exposed to other foods (i.e. at grandma's or their friends) they will divulge in it, which is exactly what you want to avoid.
