  1. Ecotourism? If I go outside am I an ecotourist?

  2. There are all kinds of eco tourism

    Got friends in South Africa ,who get a whole group of people regularly ,that eat drink ,and sleep in their place ,paying all the way ,just to go up and take a photo of 3 eagles that live there.

    If the eagles were gone ,this tourist business would cease to exist.

    The same applies to many elements in nature as far as eco tourism is concerned

    Many people come to see  particular species of flora or fauna

    My brother has several Safari lodges in Southern Africa,people who go there expect to see Lions,leopards ,Elephants ,Giraffes and so on

    The 5 main animals are called the big 5 ,and what one can charge the tourists depends on what animals can be seen.

    So the Income that comes from the eco tourism directly relates to the quality of the nature.

    And with the high class places a lot of this money returns to the base,

    Quote;

    it cost about R5 million (rands) to get the concession for Tinga (the game reserve) and that money went straight back to the National Parks Board.They then pay 10% of all profits to the National Parks Board. So it is a good income stream for them. On top of that they run training programs for locals in all sorts of things, including game rangering, tracking etc.

    They are also very strict in environmental damage etc, No trees are allowed to be cut, not even dead wood removed for fires etc,no off road driving except for leopard or lion tracking, and then they have to repair any damage done So the whole concept is very environmentally friendly.

    end quote.

    Generally speaking  people come for the Nature ,and if this is harmed ,contaminated, with out animals or has trash lying around,

    ,they will find another place that is better

    Here in Mexico our local lagoon lost almost all of the tourist business one year because of too much trash in the water .
