Where can I find a diagram of how a UV Treatment System works?

It's the thing where the UV rays hit the microorganisms and the water and damage the DNA, preventing it from growing and getting people sick.

  1. Really simple.

The water flows through glass tubes that are surrounded

    by extremely powerful UV Lamps.

as the water flows thru the tubes, the light kills the germs.

There is a practical limit to how much water can be run through it per hour.

  2. UV rays have a high energy. Energy for light is calculated by the formula E=hv. Where E is the energy of the light, h is a constant and v is the frequency of the radiation. Since UV rays have a very high frequency their energy is very high. Due to their high energy this particular stream of light is able to kick electrons in molecules from the stable ground state to the unstable excited state (thus it ionizes the molecule). The ionization of the DNA molecules results in their destruction and it is not just the DNA which can get effected by this kind of radiation even other proteins in the cell can get effected by the radiation. The extent of exposure of the water to the UV rays determines how well it kills the micro-organisms since UV rays do not have as high a penetrability as compared to X-rays and Gamma rays (even higher frequencies).
