here is my situation. i have been sick for 6 months and ive been getting worse. i quit my job. i worked in a machine shop for 3 years. i keep getting fevers and dizzy spells due to the work conditions. it is not air conditioned and no ventilation. so the temp inside is 90 degrees and were working 10 hour shifts with only a 20 minute lunch. i had to leave due to that. because i had quit, would i still qualify for unemployment. i am able to get another job under different work conditions though. but until i find a job in trying to find out if i qualify for any help.

  1. You only get unemployment if you are let go due to lack of work and in some cases if you are fired....

  2. If you quit, you can not collect.

  3. YOU CAN QUIT AND COLLECT!! ( i wish people wouldnt comment on this with out actually knowing the laws of unemployment .. there are a lot of people here giving bad advice)!! Im not trying to be a smartass but some people are looking for real help and are getting bad info!

you shouldnt have just quit... here is what you should have done:::

before you quit try and resolve the situation with your employer.. first go to you supervisor .. then manager..then HR then GM until they resolve the problem or until you run out of options!!! Here is why:: if you quit and try for unemployment.. you will have to go to a hearing and prove that you had a compelling reason for quitting and you exhausted ALL options with your employer in trying to address the issue!! be sure to document all times and what was said to all of the above mentioned "management" so you have proof of your actions in trying to fix the problem. Having a non-management employee there to witness your discussions would also be a good idea .. (employers tend to "bend the truth when faced with a hearing"! be organized and get your facts straight!

  4. You can't collect unemployment, and it's not that much anyway. I suggest you look for another job now, or at least temp in the meantime.

  5. Your situation would not qualify.  The only way you can collect unemployment after quitting is to show that the employer did nothing to accommodate your employment, therefore leaving you with no other option but to quit.  Since this seems more you, than the employer…. I am sorry to say it doesn’t look good for you.
