Just out of curiosity, on a p2p program ( I use ares ) lets say I want to download a movie and there's like 100 users? how does this make the download go faster and at the same time when it says '100 users' does that mean there are 100 users downloading the file the same time as I am and all of our connections are linked up? Just wanting to know how it works.

  1. 100 means there are 100 people on the network that have that file.... it goes faster because there is usually a limit on the bandwitdh you can get from each of those 100 (set by the person with the file)..... and you recieve parts of the file from each person

  2. Those 100 users shown all have a copy of the particular file on their hard disk already.

The software (in you case ares) will download small parts of the file from each user. In the end, the software puts all those pieces together in one file again on your computer.

The Software will make a connection to all, or at least part of those 100 Users.

Every single user only allows so much speed to upload a file to you. So having just one user to download from will only be as fast as the other users allows you to download. If there are more users, then you will have the combined speed of all those users upload limits (up to your maximum download rate) so having more users to download is faster than just from one.

  3. if the program has 100 files and theres 100 users, it will take 1 file from each user making the download faster the same as seeders
