  1. well, first of all,water does not enter the leaf directly from the atmosphere but is absorbed up into the plant by the aid of the roots of the plant. This water is transported by the root xylem in the root to the stem xylem and up into the leaf xylem. As for the gases, they get in and out of the leaf by diffusion.Carbon dioxide diffuses into the leaf through the stoma found on the leaf which are controlled by the guard cells. this gas is taken in during photosynthesis and oxygen diffuses out of the leaf as a by-product of photosynthesis while some is used up during the process of respiration.did you know that oxygen is diffused into a leaf of a plant in the abscence of sunlight? well this is becos the plant does not have a direct source of oxygen when photosynthesis is not taking place to continue respiration which is essential for the plant so it would start to absorb oxygen from the atmosphere.
