  1. Hair follicle grows from the dermis layer and sprouts in the surface/epidermis layer. Hair lengthens because the root of the hair follicle is the one which is growing and extending, unlike in the growth of trees/plants where the trunk never actually grows but the apical ends of it grows, so trees become taller.

  2. Hair is an outgrowth of protein, found only on mammals. It projects from the epidermis, though it grows from hair follicles deep in the dermis. The main component of hair fiber is keratin.

Hair derives its nutritions from the skin.Hair forms in a pouch-like structure below the skin called a hair follicle. What we see as hair is actually the hair shaft, which is the keratinized, hardened tissue that grows from this follicle.

Humans have more hair follicles per square inch of skin than most higher primates, including chimpanzees and gorillas. Because most of this hair is fine and pale (called vellus hair), it usually isn't visible to the naked eye. The forehead has more hair follicles than any other part of the body.

Everyone's hair grows differently, depending on age, weight, metabolism, hormones, ethnicity, medications, and other factors. But all hair goes through three distinct growth phases
