How does2+2=4?

I assume you are enquiring about an effective way to show that 2 and 2 makes 4 to your pre-schoolers or child. Very young children do not understand abstract figures like...2 and 2 make 4. They need to grasp numerals first - 1, 2 ,  3 etc. You need to establish their numeracy  

Place 4 attractive objects on the floor or table infront of the child.

Let the child count out the objects - 1, 2, 3 and 4. Encourage child to touch the objects with her fingers while counting.

Then place two objects away from the other two. Now count 1, 2, on one side using your fingers to touch each object as you count. Then start counting the two objects on the other side 1, 2. Let the child repeat this after you.

Then put objects closer but still not together.

Count the 2 first and then continue counting the other two.

Say out '2 and 2' is 4. Place all 4 objects together for child to understand that when they are out together they are still the same objects and form the same total. Let the child try after you. Keep doing this a few times. Maybe even with different objects.

Note : It might be a gd idea to let the child play with the object (to be used for the activity) first before starting the counting. If not, during the counting, she wd be too engrossed in the object to be concentrating. Let the novelty of the object wear off and you will get their undivided attention.

Modelling behaviour/actions are very useful and effective with children, esp younger ones. They love to 'play' adults.

Recap is also a good measure to ensure retention.

if you know that 1+1=2 then it will be easy

if you don't know then do this:

count 2 fingers:-

a finger (one), another finger (two). so 1+1= 2

now count 2 and 2:-

a finger (one), another finger (two), another finger (three), another finger (four)

so 2+2=1+1+1+1=4

I hope this will not be so difficult for you.

or just add 2 to 2 and you will get 4

if there are two smiley faces like this =] =] and then there are another two smileyfaces like this =] =] then the smiley faces get together making 4 =]=]=]=] so

two smileyfaces=]=] added to two more =]=] gives you four =]=]=]=]

so 2+2=four

or there is two dogs named one and two they go next door to play with dogs named three and four. when there owner looks outside he sees one,two,three,four.
