  1. It depends on the laws where you live.  Most attorneys will give you a free first consultation so you can get the information you need.  They can tell you how to go about it on your own.

My husband adopted my son from a previous marriage.  We were in Chicago at the time.  The law said that it had to be put in the newspaper for 30 days in any location the biological father could be living  which ended up being kinda expensive. So we opted not to do that due to finances.   So it was easier for me to find his biological father and ask him to sign the papers.   He has to be contacted one way or th eother  to get his permission even if he hasnt paid support or visited with the child.(by the newspaper ad or by signing away his rights on his own)   At lease that was the laws in Chicago.

When I found him he refused to sign the paper unless I gave him 5000 bucks!  lol  So I filed for the 20,000 bucks of back child support. WHen he saw he would have to pay then  I told him I would drop the child support if he would sign the papers. He gladly signed them.   And we did the adoption.  I never forced or even told my son to call his adoptive dad "dad.  we left it up to him.   And he chose to.  We have never regretted it.  ANd I told him he could contact the biological one anytime in the future if he so desired. He chose not to.

    hope that helps?  good luck

  2. Could you please be more specific? Is it his child? If, so she can't be adopted unless she wants to be. I would know, I was 11 when my step dad adopted me and if the child is at a certain age to know what's going on, and refuses, you cant do it!
