How dumb is Michelle Wie for forgetting to sign her scorecard?

This is more a rant that a question, but feel free to respond with your thoughts...

Does this girl have a massive fear of success, or what? By my count, she needed to finish #1 or #2 in this tournament to avoid Q-school - and low and behold, she finds herself leading after two rounds! Then what does she do? Forgets to sign her card - D'oh!!

It absolutely defies explanation how week after week she finds a new way to make a spectacle of herself!

In her very short career she has been DQ or penalized for cheating at least 4 times. She has withdrawn on several other occasions. She has fired her caddy, disrespected Annika Sorenstam, pulled the rule of 88 stunt, - geeze, she may suck as a pro golfer, but you can't say that she doesn't provide weekly entertainment.

Anyway, I believe this was her last exemption of the year and she has fallen about $105K short of the $110K needed to avoid Q-school.

  1. I thought she was actually gonna be good, so much for that.

  2. There is no excuse for a professional golfer to not be aware of the rules since this is the way they make their living, at a game which is defined by rules. Apparently immaturity doesn't enter into the picture so much as stupidity and as much as I would like to see Michelle succeed her mistakes have been inexcusable.

  3. After 3 rounds of great golf, how do you forget to sign your scorecard?

In 2006, she was ranked #2 in the world after placing 5 out of 7 top 5 finishes.  No doubt that she has talent, but she is her own worst enemy.  She finds ways of getting DQ'd.  2 years ago, she hit some sort of moss....or something like that and got DQ'd.  She blamed the caddy and fired him.  It was clearly  her fault, not her caddy's fault.

When will Wie learn that she is too inexperienced to have become pro so quickly?   She has the talent, but is totally lacking maturity.

She is not taking golf seriously by attending Stanford.  Talent will only take you so far.  You need to be practicing day in and day out.  Lorena will keep ruling over her until she matures AND takes golf seriously.  She needs to quit Stanford now if she wants to compete with the big girls like Lorena and Paula.

  4. She is young, privileged, spoiled and stupid. Unfortunately the only real talent she had was hitting it a long way. As most golfers know it takes more than a long drive to make a good golfer. I had hoped she was coming around and maturing. But I guess she needs some more time. However, many full grown adult men have failed to sign a score card.

I don't fault her on that as much as DQing herself when she looked like she was going to card an 88 in that tournament last year and be banned fromt the LPGA for the year. So maybe she isn't so dumb.

  5. First things first, the field for this event wasn't exactly the strongest on the LPGA.

I agree with your question/rant.  I think she has done quite a few things during her short career that are questionable.  I sometimes wonder how much respect she has for the game.

She got $50 million in endorsements as soon as she turned pro and she was hyped as some phenom that can beat the men on the PGA Tour.  I think she had it easy.

Maybe having to scratch and claw through Q-school will be good for her.

  6. She's a hack player and has no business being as popular as she is.

She's tall, asian, and beautiful.  In her case, her ability to play golf is definitely a secondary consideration.

  7. This was taken from a Hawaiian newspaper ....

Wie failed to sign her scorecard after Friday's second round. She showed up Saturday and shot 5-under 67 to finish alone in second at 17 under, one stroke back of Yani Tseng. That's when Wie learned of the LPGA's ruling.

The 18-year-old Wie, who appeared to have been crying, told reporters she made a mistake. "I don't know how it happened," she said.

...................... well beyoch, that's why it pays to be an actual MEMBER of the LPGA -- so that you can get to know their rules. Sheesh!

  8. She's young and mistakes are common at her age and inexperience. Get off her back!!!!! Why don't you just admit you're micro-managing her every move due to the money and media attention she's gotten. Only Ochoa,Creamer and Suzann Pederson are better than Wie. She's going to do for the LPGA what Tiger has done for the PGA. Give it the audience it deserves and increase salaries. The problem is most people are fighting the Asian invasion:they want the LPGA to stay predominately white. Had Suzann Pederson not had a Jean Van de Velde moment Pressel would not have won a major for at least another 5 year.

  9. All I can say is WOW. For once, she's performing great, and she makes a dumb mistake...

Her career has fallen to the lowest of lows, and I doubt it will rebound. I'd say she's done for good.

  10. I'm pretty sure that's why you go into the scoring tent - to act like you're checking your math and then sign your scorecard.

It'd be like jumping in the shower - forgetting to turn on the water and then jumping out 5 minutes later

"Huh, I wonder why I still stink and there's shampoo in my hair?"

  11. Remember the hype she had.. she was gonna be the next tiger woods... haha she is garbage.. she should try another sport

  12. How did she get into Stanford?
