How early can I apply for scholarships?

Ive got things covered financially for the next 2 years, but after that I definately need aid. Can I apply for scholarships now to get a head start? Or will they expire before I can use them? If its too early right now, when would be the best time to apply? Maybe Jan/Feb before the fall semester?

I agree...don't wait too long. Most of my scholarships have had a deadline of Feb 1st or April 1st. As soon as the scholarship is posted, you should be able to turn in your app.

Once you receieve the award, they will tell you when you need to use it by (like Fall of 2008 or whatever).

I would  start looking now.  Look  on-line and see what kinds of scholarships are available.  You should also visit your financial aid office for info.  Just remember, scholarships should be free!

Don't wait until Jan/Feb.  Most scholarships have a deadline.  All of the ones at my school have a deadline of January 1.  You can't get any after that.

You can never be too early. You can at least check what's available in order to be prepared for when the time comes.

Hi, Violet, You should look at all your options whether it's direct bank loan or a Federal grants, scholarships or loans.

Nowadays, the Federal is a bit more enlightened (at least in this case) then when I went to school! You need to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) application which you can find on http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. This application connects the proper Federal financial aid for a student based upon the student's financial information. The deadline for 2007-2008 is June 30, 2008 and for 2008-2009 it's June 30, 2009. You need to apply every year but it's certainly worth your while to check out the website so that you can gather your information together.

You should start applying for scholarships at LEAST at the beginning of your Sophmore high school year.  I wouldn't recomend starting to apply any later than that.
