How early does one need to be at the air port to fly overseas?

Call your airline or travel agent. If you get it wrong you might lose your seat. Allow extra time for travel to the airport and plenty of time to check through security. Consider, if there is a traffic accident there could be big road delays.

try and be there at least 2 hours before the boarding time, so u can be fully ready and have a look around the airport (especially, duty free shops).

By the way, if you've already had your check-in baggage loaded onboard and do not show up on time, then the plane will never take off until they find you or get rid of your stuff, so as to increase the security measures.

I try to get to the airport at least 2 hours early, sometimes 3, depending on the airport. If your airport is very busy, lines could be long, security could take forever and it could take a long time to get through everything. If you are checking bags you will need a little more time.

Standard is to be 2 hours early. I find that this gives me plenty of time to get through everything and to the gate. Also, the size of the airport will make a big difference as to how long you will need.
