Probably in my junior year in high school I will be going to France for a year. How far in advanced should I apply? I am applying for a France/French speaking Belgium through AFS. http://www.usa.afs.org/usa_en/focus_on/high_school/9

  1. Hi!

You should probably ask the people at Campus France USA as they are the only people to tell you the correct details. http://www.usa.campusfrance.org/en is the site I guess. Check it out. Call up their office and ask them want you need. They should tell ya. Bye!

  2. You don't say what grade you are in now, so that's kind of hard to answer. Generally if you need to apply in the latter part of your first semester of the year PRIOR to your exchange year, especially if you are also wanting to apply for scholarships.

Something else you should be aware of, most French speaking countries require two years of high school French from American students. Not sure if you have that already, but it may impact your decision.

And, contrary to the advice given by the previous poster, if you already know you plan to go through AFS, it's AFS who knows what their application deadlines are ... not whatever place they gave you.

If you don't already have an AFS contact, check with your school counselor. Chances are, AFS already works with your school. If not, go on line to the site and find out the closest AFS rep and talk to them.
