How early should I arrive to the Amtrak station?

I'm going on a trip in a few weeks and need to know how early I should get to the station. We have a roomette, so I don't need to be on the train super early to get good seats.

The 30 to 45 min answers are correct, but what's with the "don't take Amtrak unless you want to crash" comment about? The implication is that Amtrak has a poor safety record. Please supply supporting details for your idiotic comment. Suggest driving??? Amtrak has problems but safety isn't one of them!

Be at the station 30-45 minutes before departure time to be sure you baggage has adequate time to be checked in and loaded.

Don't go Amtrack unless you want to crash!  But if you must take them I would arrive 30-45min before your departure time.

Be at the station no later than 30 minutes before the train leaves. That's the latest they'll check your baggage.
