How early should i show up for my flight?

Our flight leaves at 7am... I was reading a website last night that shows you how to eliminate checking bags... I've mastered the art of folding my clothes VERY tiny :) Now I have no bags to check, and extra room in my carry on!! (this makes me very happy)

If i don't have to go check any bags, how early should i show up? I've always gotten my tickets at the baggage check too... where do i get them now??

And - can i pack something to eat on the plane? Can you get that through customs? I always see ppl bringing food on the plane, but do they buy it after customs, or can you bring your own from home?

Thanks!!!

  1. If its a domestic flight, you should be there 1,5 hour before, if its international, be there 2 hours before. It doesnt matter if you dont carry bags, many other people will carry and they will cause traffic in all check points. You cant carry food from home in the airplane, except if you bought it from the duty free section.

    Have a nice flight!

  2. I always leave 2 hours for my flights. I always make my flight. If your flying over seas get to the airport 3 hours before departure.

  3. If you are flying international, I would give myself at least 2 full hours. If you are staying domestic (and in that case, you wouldn't go through customs) I would say about 80-90 minutes. Checking in will be no problem if you aren't checking bags as you can use one of the automated check-in computers. Sure! Bring food but don't bring liquids as they will be disposed of. And by customs, I think you mean security - food is okay, but liquids aren't.

  4. 5:30 am

  5. Yes you can bring food from home I do it all the time just not any drinks they have to be purchased after security. make sure 24 hours before you fly to get your on line boarding pass and that will speed things up at the airport  also . Depends on what day of the week as to how busy security takes but for the most part they move pretty quickly and if not you go to one of the security people and tell them your late for your flight and they push you through quicker. I would be there at least an hour and a half early. Happy safe travel Have fun.

  6. Get there 2 hours ahead of time, why? because if there is a lot of people it will take a long time to get through. Plus you want to find out before hand were you will need to be, you don't want to have to rush.

  7. It sounds like you are flying international, so a rule of thumb is 3 hours prior to flight departure.   If you are not checking luggage, or the airport is not open that early, 2-2.5 hours is generally OK, at that time of the morning, the security line will not be too bad, I would not think.

If I am wrong and you are flying domestic, take an hour off of those times.

As far as bringing things through customs, you go through customs on arrival, not departure, so I think you mean security.  You can bring food through security, but not drinks.  For a list of all items you can bring through, go to www.tsa.gov and click on What to Know before you Go.

Also, you can check in with continental 24 hours in advance via website and print your boarding pass then.
