    No, not really.

    It rotates because there is nothing to stop it. It is surrounded by vacuum and not connected to anything so there is no way for it to lose its rotational energy. Actually, tidal forces from the sun and moon are slowing it down ever so slightly.

    Its rotation came from the rotation of the cloud of dust and gas that originally formed the solar system. Also that's why almost everything in the solar system rotates in the same direction.


  2. It spins around the north/south pole axis, in an eastward direction.  That's how the Earth rotates.
