My daughter and I want to make candles to give out as gifts at my baby shower. Is it difficult? Expensive? We were thinking just small votives. Has anybody seen baby powder scent?

Sorry that was like 50 questions. Just excited!

  1. I'm not going to say it's easy, or inexpensive, but you and your daughter will have SO much fun!!  And let me please just give you this advice - even if you only make this one round of candles ever in your life - DO NOT USE YOUR STOVE.  LOL.  Seriously, I learned this the hard way more than once.  Get yourself one of those individual burners.  They aren't that expensive new, but even less so if you can find them second hand.  Wax will get everywhere, no matter how careful you are.  But if you have a garage or a outdoor area, that would be best.  If not, cover the surface under where you are working with something disposable and heat/wax resistant like tin foil.  It is an expensive hobby, but if you shop craft stores with coupons, that might help too.  Good luck and have fun!

P.S  If you guys really get started into it, buying in bulk online will help you save as well.  My favorite place to get wax is http://www.glorybeefoods.com/gbf/ and my favorite place for scents is http://www.candlecocoon.com/.  Enjoy!

  2. Well, it can be expensive.  If you are going to do just votives that will help keep the cost down, all your candles will be the same size.  You can find a baby powder scent which would be great for a baby shower.

Have a look at this website and if you order tell them I sent you, lol.

    www.craftlobby.com

    Another good website: www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com

also, there are groups you can join on Yahoo that are on the subject of candlemaking.  You will find experienced people there that will help you.  Another suggestion is to go to a craft store such as Hobby Lobby or Michael's, I prefer Michael's, and get what you can there and order the rest online.  They usually have booklets to help get you started in the aisle with the supplies.

    Have fun and be creative!

  3. You can find candle kits at local craft stores, not sure if they have baby powder scents but you could always take a look!
