How easy is it to be scammed using Paypal?

I'm offering something on Craig's list and this set off my radar:

Many thanks for your mail..Am buying this item for my Son Schooling in Oversea as a birthday gift but am not in state presently now...i will add $100 for the shipping cost...And i will made the payment through my PayPal Account cos its very secure and very fast to receive money so kindly get back to me with your PayPal email so that i can send the money there immediately.

Is there a way that this person could be somehow ripping me off? I'm not sure why she'd offer to pay $100 for shipping. . . unless there is something she's doing that's not on the up and up. Normally I do Craig's list, get cash, and trade in person in a public place. No risk of scam. . .

But, would Paypal protect me?

  1. That's bluntly a scam...

Anything along those lines is a scam...

    it's quite obvious...

And no paypal wouldn't protect you because that's where common sense comes in..
