  1. If you are asking from the UK, you can go to the register office where your birth was registered and  change your name by deed poll it will  cost £40:00 and you wont need to involve a solicitor.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Easy!

Marriage is one option available, if you so wish.

Otherwise, contact the appropriate authority. A websearch should provide this info!

  3. It depends where you live. Some countries are difficult. In Canada, this is easy. I actually changed mine about a year ago. The form asks you the reasons and so on, you pay a fee and there you go. This form is available in the Licence and Registry offices.

  4. well in australia its simple.. all u need is to go to the register of births, deaths, and marriages and fill out some form to change your last name but you must give them a reason why or a couple of reasons why you want to change it.

  5. Unless you put it in your question, we can't tell what country you are in. It is the most frustrating thing Y!A does. Even if you go in through Y!A Australia, Y!A Canada or ordinary Y!A, all the questions in English go into one big "pot". I'm in California, for instance.

In California it costs $320 plus the cost of a legal notice that has to run in a newspaper for 4 weeks, and takes 5 - 6 weeks. I suspect the cost and time is about the same in other states in the USA.

  6. It is pretty simple.  However, this is the genealogy forum.  Changing your name is NOT a genealogy question as it is not about research of your ancestors.  It is a legal question and it requires a judge of the court to approve it.
