How easy is it to get a letter to someone in sosua, dominican republic? Is it reliable postal service?

I would like to send a letter and some money to a friend in Maranata, sosua, puerto plata, but i am unsure of how safe this will be for the postal service...

Also, there is no zip/postal code-does anyone know what i would put after Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic?

Any help is much appreciated.

Sending money by mail is not a good idea. For one, if the envelope looks padded (like it has money in it), it will most likely be opened and stolen. Second, most, if not all mail carriers, do not permit you to send money or advise against it for this same very reason.

I would send the money by Xoom.com. The recipient can pick up the money at a Caribe Express office in Los Charamicos, which is very close to Maranatta. I have this done all the time and it is much cheaper than sending money via Western Union. However, the recipient must have a valid government ID to pick up the monies. As for the letter, send by fax or send the documents by FedEx International Priority or regular mail. Have the package sent to Sosua Business Services as follows (which is just 5-10 minutes from Maranatta):

Your friend will need 50 pesos to pick up the mail and valid ID. Regular USPS mail can take 3-4 weeks or more to receive. Why have your friend wait so long?
