Question:

How easy is it to get a visa at the Egyptian border?

Hi, I am planning on visiting Egypt as part of a tour group this summer. I am Canadian, and require a visitors visa to enter Egypt. I know you can get the visa at the border, I was wondering how easy/difficult it is? I have heard its cheaper to do it that way, rather than in advance through a visa company, but I'm worried about delays or being denied entrance entirely. Does anybody know? Thanks!

  1. I just came from Egypt this past weekend after being there for a month.  I waited until I got at Duty Free Airport to get the visa.  I don't remember exactly what I paid.  I think like $30 or $40 (in American dollars).  It only took about 5 minutes to get it and then I had to get in one of the lines with everybody else (Egyptian & non-Egyptian) for passports and visas to be checked before entry.  So it shouldn't cause any major delays, just a 5-10 minutes more of your time.  It is highly improbable that you would be denied entry.

If you really want to make sure, call the airlines.  I know from my experience while getting my ticket before my flight, the agent looked into it and saw that I would get the visa when I arrive at Egypt's airport and that I would not be denied entry.

    Good luck!

  2. you will get the visa bec you are Canadian.

you will pay in dollars / sterling .

Candian dollars are possibly accepted , too.

everybody from the US , the UK , or Canada  are granted the visa on the spot .

  3. UK persons are able to buy a VSA at the border at arrival, permitted you fly in.

Any land border crossing you have to watch what kind of visa they want to 'sell' you as some visa only cover certain areas and some are excluded.

It's possible to buy a visa only for St. Catherine, so you're not allowed anywhere else.

They check a lot in buses and at road blocks to prevent terrorist attacks.

  4. Very easy. You can get it when you land. I only paid 15 USD for mine.

  5. Yes you can buy a visa when you land in Egypt in the airport.  If you are flying to Cairo, Luxor, Taba etc you will have to buy a visa which costs between $20 to $30.  The visa lasts for 30 days and if you are staying longer than this time period you can extend it for 3 months 2 times.

If you are flying to Sharm el Sheikh then it is a little different as it is optional.  You do not have to buy a visa if you are not going to be leaving the Sharm area and are not staying longer than 2 weeks but this does limit any trips you may decide to do including boat trips.  You can buy a visa at the airport and is the same price as i have mentioned above with the same time limit and extendable times and this does not restrict you at all or any trips you may want to do.

It is best to buy a visa with you own currency rather than Egyptian pounds also once you have left the airport you will not be able to buy a visa.

Don't worry about not being denied a visa i have never heard of this happening.  You hand the money over and you are passed a sticker saying visa they don't check you passport at this point only as passport control where they will stamp over the visa sticker.

    Have a good holiday.
