Question:

How easy is it to get from Porec (Croatia) to Venice?

Am going to Porec in Croatia for a week in September and have heard that various tour companies will arrange a coach/ferry trip to Venice for you for about £50/60 each. As someone who hates organised travel and much prefers to do these things under my own steam, I was wondering if anyone else has done this trip themselves. On this occasion I am travelling with people who prefer their holidays to be planned for them, right down to the restaurants they eat in (grr!) I'm trying to show them a better, cheaper alternative. Does anyone have any recommendations for ferry companies? Is it reasonably easy to arrange - and any idea of cost per person?

Thanks

  1. Just book the titcket for the ferry, and plan your day in venice on your own, but you'll pay about 90 GBP just for the ferry.

The links show timetables and fares.

  2. The ferry would be my first bet, but a two-hour bus ride to Trieste and then a few hours on the train isn't so bad - good view of the Istrian countryside; but the Ferry would be my bet and not so bad a ride. I guess you would have to go from p**a or Rijeka, no?

  3. Are you looking a way to get from Venice to Croatia or from Croatia to Venice? Wouldn’t be nice to start in Venice and then take a day or two down the Croatian coast? If you are visiting Italy and you don’t have enough time to visit Croatia, I am sure you will be glad about possibility to take the fast ferries that connect Venice to some most beautiful Istria peninsula towns like Umag, Porec, Rovinj, p**a, Rabac and all the way to Losinj island.
