I want to get married abroad in a year or two but my partners father has a record, I am not sure what kind of convictions he has but I don't think he has been in jail or anything! How likely is it that he will get into the US without any problems?

  1. It is not easy if there are any convictions. Contact the US embassy for instructions.

  2. With all the stuff that happened with terrorism...NOT LIKELY, just have a local wedding? What is wrong with the good old fashioned way?

  3. The Visa Waiver Program cannot be used by people with a "criminal record", but not all incidents count for the VWP.

Your partner's father needs to get some legal advice to find out if the incidents count as "arrests" or "convictions" for purposes of traveling to the USA using the VWP.  If they don't count then he should have no problems at all.

If they do count he needs to get legal advice BEFORE applying for a visa.

    Good luck!
