  1. Depends on how keen you are with DIY - it takes a lot longer than you think, and most things you can do yourself except connecting gas appliances which must be done by a registered corgi dude.

If you take your time and have a logical/methodical approach and you don't panic when you make a mistake the results will be well worth it.

If in doubt, pay a professional - s/he will do a better job than you and much more quickly than you ever could.

  2. I have been a project manager for 15 years now.  It is not easy, we have put right many a bodged kitchen before now that a client has bought and attempted to fit themselves.

My one piece of advice is get, whoever/wherever you get the kitchen from to get plans of your kitchen and supply the units, as so many times the units are incorrect to fit the walls when tried to do as a home project.

I am not saying you cannot do it, you may be very practical, just take care, as it is a lot of money to throw, literally down the kitchen sink!

  3. piece of p**s mate first of all you go and spend thousands on your units and stuff rip out your old kitchen get a hammer, saw, drill, screwdriver and a spiritlevel (make sure thers a bubble in it) knock the units together chuck them into place stand back and admire show the wife get up off the floor wipe the blood off your face pick up the phone call somone like me and pay me hundreds to put your mess right.

  4. Actually installing the cupboards is very easy, just make sure everything is level and plumb. The hard bit is the plumbing, gas work and electrical side of it,also doing masons mitres or butt and scribed joints on the worktops should not be undertaken by a novice.you will also need a corgi registered gas fitter for you hob/cooker etc.

  5. its not, why do think people pay so much to have them done?

  6. Unless you have many skills to do this, carpentry, plumbing, electrician, tiler, realistically you have very little chance of doing it and it not finishing up looking like the dogs ********!

  7. Ikea kitchens are probably the easiest since you hang them all on a rail and are removable. But you still need plumbing put into the base cabinets, and holes cut into the countertops for a sink. I assembled all of my cabinets and hung the uppers, but had a contractor do the bases, and a plumber put in the sink and dishwasher.

If its a small galley or one wall kitchen, maybe, but you do need to know what you're doing

  8. As easy as performing root canal on yourself without anaesthetic, ten times in a row.

And it hurts almost as bad.

  9. If you're generally good at DIY, you should be OK. I fitted mine, but it took me a lot longer to do than I anticipated, but then I completely gutted my kitchen & installed extra power points, moved the sink position & tiled the floor. I took 2 weeks holiday from work, but it wasn't long enough & I had to complete the job in evenings & weekends.  But the satisfaction of knowing you've fitted it yourself is immense!

  10. its not..lol

  11. It depends on your capabilities. If your handy with the old hammer then its not that difficult. The only hard bit is joining the worktops, you can either go the router/worktop jig route or buy the metal butt join strips, which don't look as good but are allot easier. There's plenty of info on this on the net. If you think your gonna struggle with this bit then get a chippie to do this bit for you for a days money. Other than that take your time plan what your gonna do and you should be fine.
