  1. EADG.

But no;  I woudln't even dream of trying to learn it without a private teacher.

  2. you need a teacher if you think H is a note

  3. it would be very difficult and unless you got yourself "how to teach yourself violin" books it would be almost impossible

i have been playing the violin for seven years and it is definatly not an easy instrument to learn

give it a go though - i taught myself to play the piano a couple of years ago and it was a great thing to do

if you manage it it will be a great achievement

    good luck x

  4. How terrific that you were given a violin as a present! I hope you will give yourself a present, and arrange for lessons. Some instruments are easier to pick up than others; string instruments don't fall into that category.

The bowing is quite tricky. Then there's the fingering. To get them to happen properly at the same time is quite feat. Then there's tuning the strings. Beyond that, there's applying resin to the bow. How much? How often? What brand?

Please find a teacher. It will increase your pleasure with this instrument dramatically. If you were to teach yourself, you'd learn bad habits that you'd have to unlearn once you did start taking lessons.

Also - a teacher will help you over the rough spots that everyone runs into and help smooth them out so you won't get discouraged and stop playing. They will also suggest appropriate music for your level of ability and your interests, and tell you where to obtain it.

  5. no instrument is really easy to learn but the strings are G D A E!! and there is no such thing as the note H it only goes up to G

  6. I have been playing violin for nearly 5 years and I strongly recomend you to get a teacher. It will be very hard to learn without one. If you absolutly cant, get some training videos and books at a local music store. Hope you learn!!! Its such a great hobby to pick up. :-)

  7. I don't know what the strings are tuned to, but H isn't a note... lol. its A B C D E F G, no H.

  8. From lowest to highest -- the strings are G D A E.

And given your complete ignorance of music, I would STRONGLY urge you to get a teacher if you actually want to learn to play.
