  1. I have read SEVERAL poker books over the years.  Super System (the first one) is a great one and was considered the bible of poker for years.  I REALLY like everything Sklansky and Malmouth have written.  Check out their books for sure.

  2. Practice with play money at Pacific Poker.com or a similar site.  I think most daily newspapers run a poker site as well.

  3. Learning is easy.  Being good is hard.

First learn what hand beats what.  Then learn Texas Hold'em which is the most popular variation of the game.  Read a nice beginners book and go from there.  Practice with play money at one of the major online sites, just to get the hang of the mechanics of the game.

It's going to take a lot of time and effort to be good at it, much like anything in life.

  4. i picked it up through watching the shows on TV then started playing On-Line on William Hill and Ladbrokes, both have free-play tables were u can get to know the basics then take it from there. Good luck?

  5. Just make sure you play for fun / free before playing some real games.

  6. 10 years old???? no... I'd say 11 years old would be better.

What????????????????????? what are you talking about?!!!!!!!!

  7. have a look on dollar4dime.com they have good faq's so you can learn the rules and then you can also play for free.  Enjoy

  8. You have to start learning when your about 10 or under. If you are older than that, Forget it, Its to late for you to make a living out of it.

  9. As the classic saying goes 'it takes an hour to learn and a lifetime to master'. Dont let that put you off though as poker really is one of the greatest games around.

To start I would advise downloading one of the many sites there are on the internet (perosnally I would say Full Tilt poker or pokerstars are the best). From here on you have access to 24 hour games at all levels from free/play money up to $1,000s buy ins with many variations of poker.

If you have never really played before firstly I would suggest you play no-limit texas hold 'em. This (in my opinion) is by far the most exciting variation of poker and the most widely played anywhere. Secondly, it would probably be better to start at the play money tables just to get a feel of the game and work out hand rankings, betting patterns and the terminology. However, once you have established the basics I wouldnt spend too long on these before making a switch to real money tables. Although the play money gives you a feel for the game it is not really like 'real' poker as if you lose you just request more chips. Even if you only play at the minimum limits (1 cent - 2 cent) this still feels a lot more real than the play money.

Finally, to develop your game there are many books to read, magazines with strategy & advice and you can normally find it on tv most days too.

Hope this helps, other than that, enjoy playing and good luck at the tables!
