Question:

How easy is it to move from the UK to the Irish Republic?

I've been offered a job in Cork. I'd be moving me and my family from Leeds and we've always lived in the UK (all over Scotland, Wales, England). Would we cope? Can we get a mortgage easily?

  1. pretty easy move to Ireland

as long as you have a good paying job mortgages are easy to get

    good luck.

P:S Cork is a great place to live

  2. I've done it several times.  Better for kids in Ireland, in my opinion. Banks are throwing money at people for mortgages.  Have a look at www.daft.ie for an idea on the housing market here.

  3. don't forget the time warp

it's about 15 years behind UK time

  4. So you want to move to the 'Peoples Republic of Cork', fair play to you.  Get your 'I love Roy Keane' T shirt printed NOW.

I can barely understand them in Cork, so good luck to you, but its a beautiful part of the world, but the house prices are expensive, but not as bad as Dublin of course.

There is a web site I've seen mentioned on this site I've attached the link below, that should help you with most things, except the Cork accent!

    Good luck

  5. It's as easy as you make it. easier if you're financially sound. My boyfriend has just done it. You can transfer your national insurance contributions and be entitled to unemployment assistance until you get a job. There are no restrictions to anything really.

  6. You'd get a mortgage easily once you have a good job, although prepare to keel over in shock when you see the price of houses here. The move wont be so bad, your in the UK and there's not much difference between the two places, altough we do consider ourselves to be a lot better looking with a better sense of humour : ) The main problem that you'll have is understanding the Cork accent. It's bad. Reallly bad!

  7. Very easy. Just go to the local Irish social security office and register  for N.I number or PPS number here.

You will have no bother getting a mortgage. Life is great here, I've settled now for 4 years. You will have no probs at all

cherub  above mentioned transferring N.I contributions. Don't bother, keep paying your basic stamp in the UK(£8 a month) You never know you might want to go back in the distant future and you could be intitled to a state pension in both countries. Please check first.

    Good Luck!
