I have never traveled in Russia, Part because The Visa is $200 dollars, I stayed in Ukraine I love Ukraine!!

If you are from the US you dont need a visa in Ukraine and Travel is very easy.

(In Russia also)

in the cities Take the Metro(subway) and they have lots of buses.

and from city to city I would take the train. And if you do it right get a sleeper train, then you can lay down. ( I always travel at night so I can sleep on the train wake up and be at the next city!

For travel within Russia I recommend the Russian Railways (RZD). It's the proudest state monopoly that operates the largest and safest train network in the world. Tickets are very cheap for the basic train seats, but there are also Brand-Name (Фирменные) trains with business class seats and compartments. All trains are extremely punctual, and in normal weather arrive and depart within 1 second of the scheduled time.

You can order electronics train tickets through UFS web site http://www.ufs-online.ru/ (if you understand Russian) or at any train station. Do not order tickets from any travel agent, as they will all rip you off.

The type and cost of Russian entry visas varies depending on your citizenship. Contact your local consulate.
