I suft just small - medium waves. I can long board but can't shortboard to save my life. I'm thinking of getting a 6'6'' funboard. How difficult will that be transitioning from a longboard from about 8 feet?

  1. I just got my first fish board a couple of months ago and love it. Was riding a 7'9" and now ride a 6'2" fish no prob. It is much looser, but still paddles really well. Took 2-3 times out to "transition".

  2. If the board is buoyant enough for you to paddle and take off, it should be almost no problem. I assume you are kind of small, if you call an 8' board a longboard. If you have your 8"er down in the type of surf you are used to, the take off will be the hardest transition. You have to take off a little later, and paddle a little harder. If you are going down to 6'6", why not go for a performance shape. Maybe one that is a little fatter. Don't forget, if you are 4 feet tall, a 5 foot wave is overhead!
