How easy or hard is it to shir (shirring)?

I've found a dress pattern that I want to buy but it calls for shirring and I'm not so sure I'm ready to learn something new. How time consuming is it to shir a dress or top?

Shirring is pretty simple, but to me it is a little time consuming.  It is simply sewing rows, evenly spaced, with a straight stitch using elastic thread.  I've made a couple shirts for one of my Grandmonsters using the shirring method.  I'm not good at explaining how to do sewing techniques, even though I can actually do them.  But I did a search for you and found some very good shirring instructions.  The link I've included is actually the tutorial for a shirred top, so it might help you in more than one way.
