I've got a young lab, but no fence & was thinking of using this alternative until we get our fence finished.

  1. IMO, invisible fences are for the lazy and cheap.  Not only can they harm your dog, but some dogs just run right through them anyways -- and then are afraid to come back.  They're not fool-proof.  Plus they don't keep other dogs -- or people -- out of your yard.

Save your money and focus on getting the REAL fence up ASAP.

  2. A lot of dogs will totally ignore the pain and go through them and once through will definitely not come back in.  And they're no good at all at keeping other dogs from coming in and attacking or harassing your dog.

  3. My neighbor has one for her german shepard and it works great.  She doesn't even leave the yard now when the batteries are dead in her collar.  The trick to the invisible fencing is to follow the training not just turn them loose and expect them to know.  Use the flags and walk the dog around her boundaries several times.

  4. The problem with these fences, is they don't keep other dogs out.  It's not a good idea to leave your dog open to intruders, possibly un-fixed animals, unvaccinated and even dog aggressive.

Also if your dog ever decides to chse something andt akes a run at teh fence, the collar won't stop him.. it'll deliver a shock as he zooms past the fence, and that's it.

I'm not a fan of invisible fences usually, just because they offer no protection and not reliable enough containment for my peace of mind.

  5. I have a friend who has a large lab and it works great!!!
