Question:

How effective is Meclizine for sea sickness?

I experience severe motion sickness in cars, small boats, and in air; all of which are kept to a comfortable level with the help of prescription Meclizine. I am considering my 1st cruise, but I'm terrified that the Meclizine may not be affective enough at sea. Anyone have experience?

  1. I don't know what kind of medicine I was prescribed for my cruise( a patch behind my ear) but I ended up having such an adverse reaction to it after the first 3 day patch, I didn't put anymore on. I had severely blurred vision and it sucked!! Anyhow I never put that patch back on and I was fine for the rest of the cruise(4 days). I too get pretty bad motion sickness, but I think the sheer size of the boat helps with that. I did feel a little queasy on day 5 at the bingo tournament at the very front of the boat, but otherwise I was fine. Good Luck

  2. my son and i get SO car sick that we take Ginger Root Pills and we NEVER get sick anymore.

We even went to six flags after taking two pills (one hour before motion stuff) and we did great.. you can tell when they start wearing off, just take more..

it was even specialized on mythbuster, its a chinese secret... its over the counter, cheap and works great.

use it for more then just motion sickness, i use it when i start getting a cold and it cures my cold quicker (plus more natural pills)

just try it once and see if it works - no FAKE meds here

  3. Motion sickness

Meclizine is effective in inhibiting the symptoms of motion sickness, such as nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

    Vertigo

Meclizine may be effective in relieving vertigo experienced as a result of inner ear infections or other conditions.

  4. Meclizine worked like a charm for me on-board ship.

I had started out with the Scopalomine patch and had dry mouth and blurry vision.... so I quickly removed that. That's when I tried the meclizine they handed out on-board ship and it worked great. You really have even less to worry about on a cruise ship. They have stabilizers on the ship to keep the rocking motion to a minimum. BUT.... that only works on side-to-side motion. I was on a cruise on the Atlantic where the waves rocked the ship from bow to stern. They don't have stabilizers for that... everyone, even the crew, was sick on that trip. But that was an very unusual instance.... usually the ship is so calm you don't even know you're on the water.

I now buy it at Meijers. They even have a non-drowsy form that works equally as well without the drowsiness.

I use it whenever I fly, take a boat, canoe, raft or even ride a roller-coaster or a tilt-a-whirl. It really takes care of all my motion sickness no matter what I'm doing. It's been a Godsend.

Get some and enjoy your cruise.

  5. I always say I get seasick in the bathtub, but we love to travel, so I've never let it stop me!  I use meclizine when we go out on dive boats and small plane flights I think will be bumpy and it works great.  It would probably be enough on a cruise ship if you even need it... they're pretty stable and I've not had any problems on them except in Antarctica.  I've tried a number of things depending on how we're traveling and what we're doing.  Here's our page on motion sickness.... http://www.mousetourstravels.com/travel-...  you can see some of the options.
