How effective is radiation and chemotherapy without surgery?

my grandpa just got out of surgery for cancer they found in his chest and heart. the said they can operate because it is too severe. they are going to try radiation and chemo. can that fix the problem without surgery?

  1. Yes it is possible to treat the cancer with Chemotherapy and Radiation only without Surgery. In some cases the tumor will be very close to some other vital organs and removing the tumor will affect such unaffected organ and it may become fatal. In which case doctors treat with Chemo and Radiation only without surgery.

    I have come across a case of Cervix cancer where the tumor of a melon size was attached to Urinary bladder and removal was difficult and become fatal. So they abandoned the surgery and continued with chemo and radiation only and the patient is well now. Similarly few other organs also placed in such critical point where surgery is not possible and they are treated otherwise. -  


  2. I am very sorry, but there must be a misunderstanding somewhere. Cancer in the heart is exceedingly rare and always fatal. Also the heart cannot be radiated.
