  1. They are fairly effective. Though they tend to drag things out way to long.

  2. It's controlled by arrogant powers like the U.S. through the security council. They MUST eliminate the veto option.

  3. it is not a powerfull body and is not able to perform as anticipated during its begining due to the pulls and pushes of veto powers.veto powers dont have world representation in the changing scenerio, that is the irony.

  4. United Nations is an inutile body because it often disregarded by countries on matters concerning nuclear weapons and war.

  5. The U.N. is useless. Accept it.

  6. Actually if you go to their site and look at the list of organizations that they are involved with, then they do a huge amount of good in the world. But Im guessing that maybe you (like many people) have a specific thing that you want the UN involved with which probably has nothing to do with its purpose or powers

  7. Effective as what????

A place for 3rd world politico's to work - very effective.

As a world governing body -- a joke.

  8. look at the world and ask that question again.

  9. They may have had some bad publicity like the biggest corruption scandal of all time; the oil for food scandal; but you have to weigh that against their successes.

Like remember that one time where they........ Never mind but there was the time where they save; that's not it.

Well they drive around in that little white tank after a real force like US/UK/Australia actually does a job. I guess that is something.

  10. Complete Waste of Money ....

  11. they need people to fund. also don't know how their organisations work.

  12. For the amount of money that is spent by this bloated and corrupt organization, it could be regarded as being almost dysfunctional.  Aside from some basic help in the field of health and sometimes responding to dire emergencies, it has never accomplished anything of note.  There is a great deal of corruption, and politically the way it is set up with each member of the security council having the power to veto anything that all the other members might agree on, it is powerless to intervene in situations such as is happening in Myanmar right now.  If the UN had been even marginally functional, there would have been no war in Iraq or worry about nuclear weapons in Iran or North Korea.  All the UN really does is give a forum to every two-bit dictator and tyrant who comes along.  There is really no justification for the UN as it is constituated except that it gives a voice to third-world, dysfunctional countries.

  13. I guess UN is not about governing. It does a lot on grass-root level. I think it's important to seperate the UN Security Council from other UN departments, organs and organisations. Seems like many people talks about the UN Security Council like it was the UN. There's more to it...
