How else can i make biodiesel from wvo other than using methanol and caustic soda?

  1. There are 3 ways to use vegetable oil safely in a diesel engine.  And all three require reducing the viscosity of the oil, to be closer to that of petroluem diesel.

    1st - remove the glycerin through transesterfication so it is thin at room temperature.

    2nd - heat the vegetable oil with engine coolant so it is thin like regular diesel.  This is the least expensive method in the long run and uses a "two tank" system.  But not having to buy any methanol or a lot of petroleum, easily recouperates the cost of the system.

    3rd - "Cut" it with gasoline or kerosene after it has been properly filtered to 10 microns.

    Choosing #2 or #3 can help keep the KOH or NaOH out of your kitchen.

    I don't know, but how about just using the straight vegetable instead of biodiesel?
