  1. A steer eats grass, I eat the steer.  Energy is passed from the grass to the steer to me.


  2. Its passed up the food chain

    it is stored in the chemical bonds of the compounds which make up plant/animal matter

    when it is "burnt" that energy is released.

  3. carbon molecules.  They burn. (are "metabolized")

    That's even how oil burns, the carbon that was created by photosynthesis in plants.
