How engines work for work experience?

in 2 months i am going back to school and i am doing something called "work experience" and i want to be an engineer in making engines.. to do so i have to contact companies and ask if i can work for them but first i need to know a lot about engines.. 1. how to make them. 2. what i need to make it. 3. about engines to make it better burn less fuel produce less CO2 ...etc... please link me some websites or tell me some stuff.. tell me everything you know and what it does and how to make it ... thx.

  1. instead of asking here, you should have looked at wikipedia and also howstuffworks. Do a google search for "automobile engine tutorial".

    One thing an engineer must know is how to do research, and that does not mean yahoo|answers.

  3. I would expect the kind of work experience you are talking about is most likely to be had at an engine testing facility.  The actual making and modifying of the engines would be done by machinists following the directions of engineers.  

      I would have thought that schools had arrangements with companies when they offered/required work experience so they had a coordinator to verify you were there and learning.

      If you really don't know the basics of engine operation, I think you have a lot of work to do before you can get a degree in engineering.

  4. Phone up the nearest automobile manufacturing facility, and ask for a tour.  Ask all the questions you can while you are there.  "work experience" often translates into "co-operative (co-op) placement".
