Other than certain cultural aspects such as the Day of the Dead, what how exactly are they related? Were the aztecs hispanic as well? Did the spanish language emerge from the Aztecs? Any information would be great. Thanks!

  1. When it involves ethnicity in the U.S the term Hispanics include all Spanish speakers, simply because the Spanish came to the Americas and spread their culture and religion. One of the places the Spanish visited was the place we now call Mexico. Their natives were called Aztecs. Keep in mind that the Incas and Mayas are two DIFFERENT natives that belong to their respected lands that are now Central and South America. Anyways the major influence in Mexico was from the spanish, the majority of Mexicans today are mixed with Spanish heritage (Hispanics) as I am. But there are many mysterious between the Spanish and the Aztecs that are unsolved to this day. Especially the language. I'll give you an example...

Heres a normal spanish last name Sanchez

Original name: Sancho (Aztec meaning: Son of a saint)

Modernized name: Sanchez or Sanches (Changed by the Spanish)

As to why the Spanish used some words from the Aztec and changed them around is unknown, perhaps they felt it sounded better. Hope this helped!

  2. The Aztecs were conquered by the Spanish conquistadors.

  3. Aztecs BECAME Hispanics.

After Spain conquered Mexico in 1525, they ruled it for close to 300 years.  They brought the Spanish language and Christianity to Mexico.

The mix of native culture with Spanish culture brought about today's

    Hispanics.
